Duncan Bayless-Marr Earns Adult 2nd Degree Black Belt

5/1/2017

Now 16 years old, Duncan Bayless-Marr of Master Marr’s Taekwon-do in Shaker Heights, OH, re-tested for his 2nd Dan last month.  According to Union rules, students younger than 16 who achieve Black Belt rank are technically Junior Black Belts.  The title indicates that, while they have the ability and knowledge required of a Black Belt, they are still developing as leaders.  At Master Marr’s Taekwon-do, Junior Black Belts wear a half-red/half-black belt, but otherwise are treated the same as adult Black Belts.  At the age of 16, students must repeat their entire test, with a two-mile run instead of one, and all their color belt and 1st Dan patterns.
