Master Kathryn Yang started her martial arts training over 30 years ago as a Shotokan karate practitioner. Four years later she switched to Taekwondo and trained under Grandmaster Suk Jun Kim. Currently she is a 7th dan black belt under Grandmaster Kim. Master Yang runs her own school, Yang TaeKwonDo, with Master Lauren Geber in New York City. Master Yang is the author of Shijak: To Begin, A Modern Martial Arts Story.
Having graduated from Stanford University and Harvard Law School, she is classically trained to read Kant, write briefs and dole out student loan repayment checks. After a four-year career at Cravath, Swaine & Moore she decided to dedicate her professional life to teaching traditional martial arts.
Master Yang believes that teaching and conscientiously passing knowledge to the next generation is a categorical imperative. Master Yang currently serves as Vice President and Director of Eastern US in Taekwon Do Collaborative.
